Size 6 basketball or 3x3 ball: the same size label does not mean the same weight
Compare the actual Wilson NSW size-6 and FIBA 3x3 offers, the documented weight distinction and the competition check to make before buying.
Updated:

Ask whether the requirement is standard size 6 or a 3x3 ball
Do not buy a 3x3 ball solely because a team asks for size 6. Wilson describes its FIBA 3x3 Official Game Basketball as a 28.5-inch size-6 ball with size-7 weight. The size label describes one part of the specification; it does not make that ball equivalent to a standard size-6 selection. First identify the competition format and its actual ball requirement.
This Australian comparison covers the Wilson Basketball NSW Indoor/Outdoor Basketball in its size-6 variant and the separately named Wilson FIBA 3x3 Official Game Basketball. It explains which question to resolve before ordering, rather than claiming either model is automatically accepted by every club. We have not weighed, inflated or play-tested these products.

Two real offers, with different specification questions
Wilson Australia's public product data retrieved on 30 October 2026 listed the NSW size-6 SKU WZ2025001XB6 at A$79.95 and the FIBA 3x3 SKU WTB0533XB at A$69.95. Both variant availability flags were true when retrieved. These are observations of the online listing, not reserved stock or a complete delivered quote.
The A$10 lower 3x3 item price does not resolve suitability. If a coach specifies an ordinary size-6 practice ball, ask whether the heavier 3x3 construction is acceptable before substituting it. If an event requires the official 3x3 ball, an ordinary ball with the same size number is not established as a substitute.

Circumference and mass answer different questions
Circumference is distance around a ball; mass is how much it weighs. A matching circumference category cannot prove matching mass. Wilson's explicit 3x3 construction description is the relevant evidence here, rather than colour, a photograph or the size-6 label alone.
No exact measured gram value for either offered item is published in this comparison. In particular, the public store data's shipping-weight fields are not treated as measured basketball mass: the checked records contained administrative values of zero and one. Copying those into a ball-weight table would produce a false specification. If a club needs a numerical tolerance or certification, obtain that requirement and the exact model's evidence rather than deriving it from a store backend field.
Keep the dated rule explanation separate from your event's rules
Basketball NSW's Community 3x3 Rulebook 2024 explains the same size-6, size-7-weight distinction. Its introduction explicitly describes it as an introduction based on FIBA rules, not a replacement for the official rulebook, and directs readers to competition variations. That dated booklet supports the distinction; it is not evidence that every 2026 Australian junior event applies every sentence unchanged.
Before a competition purchase, ask the organiser for the current season's ball requirement, age or division variations, permitted model and whether the supplied match ball differs from personal training equipment. Tell the seller that requirement along with the exact SKU. If the answer is only 'size 6', follow up with 'standard size-6 construction or the size-6-circumference 3x3 ball?' rather than guessing.

Check the delivered quote and return conditions
The two item prices differ by A$10 before delivery. Wilson's checked pages advertised free standard shipping on orders over A$149.95. Neither single ball reaches that threshold, so do not label either displayed item price a delivered total. Enter the actual address and check shipping or eligible collection before comparing the complete cost. A shopping-cart availability flag does not guarantee a particular collection store.
The same pages describe returns for most stock items within 30 days of receipt, with conditions, and no exchanges: a different item requires a return and new order. Check the applicable return condition before inflating or using the ball. No pump inclusion, exact inflation pressure or local stock guarantee is assumed here; follow the supplied product instructions and the marking on the actual ball.

Choose the specification first, then the offer
For a confirmed standard size-6 requirement, investigate the exact NSW size-6 variant and obtain any missing mass or approval evidence the organiser requests. For a confirmed official 3x3 requirement, investigate the separately named 3x3 model and its size-7-weight construction. If the event requirement remains unclear, resolve that first; the cheaper item and the familiar size number cannot answer it.
A practical check is whether you can state the format, required construction, exact SKU and complete quote before paying. If you can only state the circumference category, the selection is unfinished. The generated illustrations explain that decision and the order check; neither depicts a real weighing test or proves an actual product's dimensions.
